Dr. Kinney served as President of the Plastic Surgery Education Foundation (PSEF) in 2006 and was honored as a young hero for his surgical relief work in Bosnia during the war, a leader of surgical charity missions in Mexico and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at USC and UCLA, he has served as a visiting professor and expert commentator at numerous national and international meetings, past chairman of the New Technology Comm. of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and has a special interest in high technology and innovation in surgery. As chairman of the Teleplast Comm. of the PSEF, he has brought plastic surgery operations, expert commentary and education to the world via videotapes, satellite and the internet. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the ASPS, the PSEF and the ASAPS and as a co-chair of the Emerging Trends Symposia of the ASPS and ASAPS. He sits on the Editorial Board of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal and has been a reviewer and invited contributor to the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal, the Annals of Plastic Surgery and edits a regular column, the President’s column for the Plastic Surgery News, the most widely circulated newspaper in the world of plastic surgery.

He is a member of the numerous societies in medicine, science and engineering. These include the AMA, ASPS, PSEF, ASAPS, CA Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

Board certified in Plastic Surgery, Dr. Kinney obtained his BS and MS degrees in Biomedical & Mechanical Engineering in Cambridge, MA at the Harvard/MIT program in Heath Sciences and Technology, his MD in New Orleans, LA at Tulane University and completed his general and plastic surgery training in Los Angeles, CA at UCLA.

He has been elected to the honorary society, the limited-membership American Association of Plastic Surgeons and won awards for his work in plastic surgery, served as a consultant to the news media, biotech and engineering companies, authored articles in many journal and textbooks. In 1994 he helped develop the websites for the ASPS and ASAPS and served as Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of Surgery.com, the oldest and largest commercial internet site for plastic surgery information.

He has appeared on radio, TV and in the media in Europe, Central and South America, Australia, including 48 Hours, 20/20, CNN, Nightline, The Today Show, Good Morning America, all the national and local TV networks, on the internet at WebMD.com, Dr.Koop, MSNBC, Playboy and in print worldwide, including The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, The Australian, London Sunday Times, LA Times, New York Post, New York Times, Mirabella, Self, and Prevention.
